Remembering George Carlin

A friend of mine informed me last week that George Carlin has passed away. Carlin was one of the three great comedians of America. I actually quoted him the other day on a religious note. (sigh).

He was most famous for his Seven Words sketch, in which he questioned the seven words ‘you can’t say on television’ and for which he was arrested.

I myself remember him most as the comedian that I came to know much too late. My uncle, at the time living in America, could entertain us for hours impersonating the best sketches of Carlin. Back in Holland I could never quite remember his name, but I could remember every detail of his sketch.

Much later I stumbled upon a youtube video of Carlin, when half way in the show he started telling a joke that I had heard years before at a diner table in Pacific Pallisades. Finally, I’ve found the man that had been feeding my uncle with all these wonderful and hilarious stories.

RIP. mr. Carlin.

Intelligent people ‘less likely to believe in God’

Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man…living in the sky. Who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn’t want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer, and burn, and scream, until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you.

He loves you and he needs money.
